Early in the morning of January 6, 1950, Olaf Martenson was found slumped over on the deck of the William H. Killigrew while she was engaged in scallop dragging. 

On return to port, medical exminer Dr. William Rosen said that the fisherman had suffered a heart attack while at sea.
